It is officially spring (and quickly heating up into summer!) here in Napa Valley. As the vinves fill in with lush green leaves, we are always amazed with the beauty of this special place. We hope to share the magic of this incredible time of year with you at our Summer Pre-Funk Party, the perfect way to warm up for BottleRock and Memorial Day Weekend (and if you’re heading to the festival, be sure to find our Wine Cabana!).

In The Vineyard
In the vineyard, as we transition from winter to spring, we undergo bud break. Bud break marks the beginning of the growing season and sets the stage for the harvest year. Bud break is the swelling of the buds on each shoot that eventually bursts open, revealing the emergence of the first leaves and the beginnings of grape flower formation. As the season progresses, these flowers will continue to form, eventually evolving into grapes.
Sustainability
Regenerative Grazing with the Sheep
While they make for a great photo op, these fluffy farmyard friends meander through the vineyard grazing on cover crops and weeds as we prepare the vines for bud break. They work their magic by adding fertility to the soil via their hooves and help to reduce our carbon emissions by cutting down on the number of tractor passes we have to make. And despite their excessive napping on the job, these sheep are the literal “workhorses” of our increased sustainability efforts at the Estate.

Q&A
1. Tell us about what your role at Sinegal:
I execute all of the cellar functions. Some of these tasks that fall under my scope are any daily wine and barrel work orders in addition to cleaning, washing and prepping tanks as needed.
2. How long have you been here and what’s your fondest memory at Sinegal?
I’m coming up on my 4th harvest. My fondest memory would be the blessing of the grapes for harvest 2022. Usually everyone is so busy that it’s just the production team, but this year we had the entire Sinegal Team present for the champagne toast: cellar, tasting room, and the office staff.
